Welcome to my Abstract World!

Instead of painting the world around me, I prefer to paint what's in my head.

Artist Statement

"Where the orderly, touches the disorderly"

The majority of my compositions are a metaphor for life.

Peace. Love. Analog, My Friends.

About M. Kelly Olsen

I've been creating for over 50 years, and it's been quite a while since I've been scolded for drawing on the family car, washing machine, or front door. First mentor: My dad—a skilled carpenter and creative.... He showed me the beauty of the creative process, and the value of being lost in the moment. Primary art influences: 1) The elegant universal dance between geometry and nature; 2) The Genius of M. C. Escher; 3) The mind-altering concept of Infinity. An Abstract approach is my true passion. It's taken 50 years to distill the visual essence of what I'm trying to achieve in my compositions. 100% analog: Hand-held tools/methods with pencils, pens, acrylic ink….. and a lot of erasers. The paintings are Acrylic Ink, not paint. How long do they take to create? Over 50 years, plus many recent hours. My creative goal: Get lost in the moment using intuitive, unguided pencil marks ("automatic drawing"), to make compositions expressing the inherent beauty of Form, Color, and Movement (…ok, and have some fun with the Titles also). My wish for the audience: Create a visual curiosity that provides a pleasant distraction. The "Art World" would describe me as "award winning, emerging artist". However, I hope most of you would use words like: Fun, Whimsy, and Pleasant Distraction. Enjoy!
